HikeStrong 2010 Team PCT

Livestrong a Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF)

The LAF is a community of people, whose lives have been affected by cancer, coming together and working to prevent, screen for, and beat it. They believe that in the battle with cancer; unity is strength, knowledge is power, and attitude is everything.  In addition to research investments, they take aim at gaps between what is known and what is done to prevent suffering and death due to cancer.

The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)

The PCT is a 2650 mile trail spanning from Mexico to Canada. Passing through California, Oregon and Washington, it climbs nearly 60 major mountain passes, descends into 19 major canyons and promenades past more than 1,000 lakes and tarns. The trail proceeds through three national monuments, seven national parks, 24 national forests and 33 federally mandated wildernesses.

Stumbling Norwegian (Erik Gilje)

Picture
Erik has been hiking in the great Pacific Northwest for 15 or more years and has been camping for a better part of 30 years. In 2009, he attempted his first thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. Due to injury and illness, Erik managed to hike a total of 2220 miles out of the 2650 miles to complete the trail. During a brief off trail gathering for his parents 50th wedding anniversary, he was informed of his fathers battle with Prostate cancer. Along with his father, his oldest brother is also battling Colon  and liver cancer. Some of his family and friends too have either won or lost their battles with cancer. For these reasons, Erik has challenged himself to complete a total thru-hike of the PCT again in 2010.

Sugar Moma (Patti Kulesz)

Patti LOVES being in the wilderness, hiking, backpacking , sleeping under the stars or  just sitting listening to nature. In 2009, She attempted to hike the PCT, but got an injury that took her off the trail for the remainder of the hiking season. When she went back home in LA, she discovered a wonderful person and friend was in the hospital with breast cancer. She has other friends and family who have suffered or died from the horrible disease of cancer, as well. This is the reason she is  inspired to hike the PCT again.
